Blankenship, Woodrow W.
WOODROW W. BLANKENSHIP, 90, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008,
at the Huntington Veterans Affairs Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted
at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne,
W.Va., by Brother Roger Smith. Burial will follow at Mays Cemetery at Lavalette.
He was born February 20, 1918, in Wayne County, a son of the late Enoch and Willa Lucas Blankenship. He was a retired carpenter for the VA
Medical Center in Huntington, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War
II. He was a charter member of the Truth Independent Baptist Church, and was
also a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 18, AF & AM, Royal Arch Mason,
Knights Templar Commandry No. 9 in Huntington, and VFW Post 1064 in Huntington.
Two brothers, Orville Breeding and Bill Breeding, and a sister, Hope Breeding,
also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Sifford Blankenship; two daughters, Bev Burgess and husband Rick, and Aurellia Smith and
husband Roger, all of Lavalette, W.Va.; two sisters, Ruth Bailey of Huntington, W.Va., and Peggy Colley
of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Arthur Breeding and wife Gladys of South Point, Ohio,
and Stewart Breeding and wife Jettie of Huntington,
W.Va.; four grandchildren, Amanda Burgess of Beckley, W.Va., Rachel Merritt and
husband Isaiah, Alex Smith, and Jacob Smith, all of Lavalette, W.Va.; and one
great-granddaughter, Isabella Rose Merritt. Pat Kizzee will be an honorary
pallbearer. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Morris Funeral Home.

Nyokia Blankenship, 59, of Wilkinson, went home to be a beautiful flower in
God’s bouquet Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.
Born December 3, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Mary Mae
Copley Lackey.
Survivors
include two sons, Mack (Angela) White Jr. of Ethel and John Blankenship of Charleston; one daughter, Jackie C.
(Ronald) Bentley of Yuma; four brothers and four sisters and their families; six grandchildren and a maternal aunt, Jean
Copley.
Services
will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, at the Sunbeam Chapel. Burial will
follow in the Lackey Cemetery at North Fork of Big Creek.Visitation
will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the James Funeral Home.

- Polly Perry Blankenship, 87, formerly of Hemple
Street, went to be with the Lord Feb. 10, 2007. A native of Wayne County, West
Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ballard and Fair Belle Smith Perry
and the wife of the late Charles
G. Blankenship Jr. She was a
member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Jones and Phyllis Mizelle, both of
Zuni, Va., and Pat Bell and her husband Robert of Chesapeake;
a son, Carlos Gene Blankenship and his wife Gay of Greenup, Ky.; two
sisters, Brookie Maynard of Kanover,
W.Va. and Lou Kirk of Dunlow, W.Va.; one brother,
Allie Perry of Wayne, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight
great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other
loved ones. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death
by a son, Bobby Jay Blankenship, six brothers and six sisters.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Graham
Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with Pastor Elston
Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bull Creek of Mohawk, passed away
Thursday,
January 31, 2002, at Bluefield Regional Hospital. He was born May 18, 1929, at Argo, Ky., a
son of the late Harve and Lonnie Hurley Blankenship.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters; four brothers, Troy Blankenship,
Clarence Blankenship, Charlie Blankenship and Everette
Blankenship, and two sisters, Alma Blankenship and Mae Sansom.
Mr. Blankenship was a retired coal miner, a member of the
UMWA and of the
Freewill
Baptist faith.
Survivors include his
wife, Maggie Hunt Blankenship; three sons, Eugene Junior (Penny) Blankenship of Bucyrus, Ohio, Clee (Ernestine) Blankenship of Argo and Adam Blankenship of Bull Creek; two daughters, Brenda Asby of North Wilksberg, N.C., and Rachael Blankenship
of Bull Creek; two brothers, Neil
Blankenship of Panther and Rutherford Blankenship of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church at Bull
Creek with Rev. Larry Riffe, Rev. Hassel
Riffe, Rev. Michael Casey, Rev. Willie Coleman and
Rev. Delburt Hurley officiating. Burial will follow
at the Hunt Family Cemetery at Briar Branch of Bull Creek.

Monday, June 25, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center. Born May 30, 1926, at Baileysville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and
Goldie Toler Harding.
Preceding her in death was
one daughter, Geizel “GG”
Blankenship Banks, and six
brothers, Jake, Leslie, Troy, Ray, Bob and Howard Harding.
Jo
was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who
knew her. She was of the Church of God faith.

left to love and cherish the memory of Jo include her loving husband of 51

Robert Dean Bowen, 50, of Bradshaw, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2005 at his home. Born in McDowell County, Oct. 23, 1954, he was the son of the late Oscar Bowen and Rachel Blankenship Bowen. He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, of the Baptist Faith, loving husband and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three
brothers, Ernest Baker, Norman Baker and Perry Lee Bowen. He is survived by his
loving wife of 19 years, Barbara Payne Bowen of Bradshaw; one son, Phillip
Aaron Bowen of the home; one sister, Janet Ward and husband, Roger of
Princeton; one brother, Hershel Baker of Jolo; four
nieces, six nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1 p.m.
at the Family Worship Center at Jolo, with Pastor
Charles Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Lester Cemetery on Stateline
Ridge No. 1, Paynesville.

“John Mark Blankenship, 43, of Route 2, Bluefield, and formerly of Princeton, passed away
on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 at the McDowell Continuous Care Center in Gary.
Mr. Blankenship was born
on April 21, 1962 in Princeton, a son of Rev. R.C. Blankenship of Route 3, Bluefield and the late Francis Farmer Blankenship. Mr.
Blankenship had been a resident of Route 2, Bluefield for two years and had
formerly made his home in Princeton. He had worked for Cargo Oil Company for
five years, had been employed by the Mercer County
Board of Education as a bus driver for two years and he and his brother were
the former owners of T & M. Trucking. He was a member of the Upper Room
Church in Montcalm where he was Superintendent of the Sunday School,
Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director and was on the Board of Trustees. He was
a former member of the Green Valley Fire Dept.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Blankenship and his grandparents, John and Odell Blankenship and John Rader Farmer and Myrtle Farmer.
Survivors include his
father, Rev. R.C. Blankenship and his wife Hazel of Route 3, Bluefield;
companion of three years, Debra Dillard Bibey of Route
2, Bluefield; daughters, Amanda Bailey of Princeton and Miranda Blankenship of the home; stepdaughters, Ashley Bibey of Route 2, Bluefield and Brandi Johnston of

Mrs. Blankenship was born on May 31, 1913 in Madisonville, Tenn. to the late
Robert Moses and Martha Jane Birchfield Moses. Mrs.
Blankenship had been a resident of Brushfork for 25
years and had made her home in Crumpler before moving
to Brushfork. She was a homemaker and was a member of
the Bluewell United Methodist Church.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garvin A. Blankenship; four brothers, Woodrow, Charles, Albert
and John Moses and three sisters, Susie Myers, Maggy
Kirkland and Elizabeth Moses.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Janice K. Wilson and husband William J. of
Princeton; sister, Dixie Blankenship of
Glenwood Park Nursing Home, Princeton; grandchildren, Kim Pilkins

BLUEFIELD — Robert
A. “Bob” Blankenship Sr., 63,
of Route 5, Box 266, Airport Road, Bluefield, formerly of Welch, went to be
with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at his residence. Born Oct. 30, 1943 at
Big Sandy, he was the son of George
Blankenship Jr. of Bluefield
and the late Helen Lambert Blankenship. When
he was able, he attended the Pentecostal Revival Center in Princeton, Pastor
Roger Walker, he worked eight years at HC Lewis Oil
Company in Welch before going to work at No. 50 US Steel Mining for 28 years,
Pineville. He was a main line motor man and load out operator. He was a member
of Local Union 1713 Pineville and served his country in the U.S. Army and
received an Honorable Discharge in the 1960's. In addition to his mother, he
was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Blankenship.
In addition to his father, George Blankenship Jr., survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 41 and a half
years, Rosella Swick Blankenship of the home; one son, Robert “Bobby” Blankenship Jr. and wife Teresa of Elkins; one daughter, Terri Lynn Mullins and husband Robert of Route 20, Bluewell;
brothers, Michael Blankenship and wife Sandy of Millington, Tenn., Kenneth Blankenship and wife Nancy of Gastonia, N.C.; sisters,

at her residence, 1342 Augusta Street, Bluefield. She was born May 12, 1930 to Josh Blankenship and Lula Burton Blankenship. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. Mrs.
Adams was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Sidney Sexton; her
husband, Sylvas Adams and one son, the love of her
life, William “Bucky” who died at 18 years of age in
a car accident. Three brothers also preceded her in death, Glen, Thaddis and David Blankenship; two sisters, Linnie Goldie Whitlow and Pearlie Poslof.
Survivors
include several nieces and nephews and special loving and caring niece, Linda Hylton; a special nephew, Richard Blankenship and special great nephew, William “Chuck” Sesco;
two sisters-in-law, Letitia
Blankenship and Joyce Blankenship; and two special friends, Emma Pokorney and Thada French. She
attended schools in Bluefield and lived in Buena Vista, Va. for over 20 years.
She worked at E.R. Moore Manufacturing Company as a machine operator.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in
the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Boyd officiating. Burial will
follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be
Steve Hylton, William “Chuck” Sesco,
Chris Sesco, Randall Earnest, Kenneth Sesco and Hank Stover.

Blankenship, 90, of Route 1, Matoaka, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007 at Patty Branscome's Care Home in Princeton. Born Oct. 1, 1916 at Beartown, she was the daughter of the late (Christopher)
Columbus Bailey and Viola Stanley Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Harry Edward
Blankenship in 1994; four
brothers, Cover Bailey, Howard Bailey, Frank Bailey and (Holland) Boyd Bailey;
and two sisters, (Mayme) Mamie
Beavers and Thelma Blankenship. Mrs. Blankenship
retired as a cook at the Herndon Grade School after 17 years and was a member
of the Beartown Memorial Church.
Survivors include one son, Paul Edward Blankenship and his wife Yvonne of Princeton; four daughters, Carol Greer of Route 1, Matoaka, Norma Gaye Hancock and her husband Jimmy of Route 1, Matoaka,

Dixie Mae Blankenship, 97, of Glenwood Retirement Village,
Princeton, formerly of Crumpler and Bluewell, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at
Glenwood Retirement Village, Princeton. She was born on Aug. 26, 1908 in
Madisonville, Ind. to the late Robert Moses and Martha Jane Birchfield.
She was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist
Church, Bluewell where she was active in the Choir
and Ladies Bible Class.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Blankenship; four sisters, Nannie Louise Blankenship, Susie Myers, Maggy Kirkland and
Elizabeth Moses; four brothers, Woodrow Moses, Charles Moses, Albert Moses and
John Moses. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: She will be
sadly missed by special niece and caregiver, Janice K. Wilson and husband
William J. of 15 Morningside Dr., Princeton; great-niece, Kim Pilkins and husband Charles and their son Chase of

formerly of Hensley, passed away Friday, September 15, 2006, in Princeton
Community Hospital, Princeton, West Virginia. Born March 12, 1940, in Iaeger, she was the daughter of the late Wallace (Red) Chaffins and Clemie May Rowe Chaffins.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Blankenship, Sr.; a brother, Ira Chaffins;
two sisters, Rita Mae Roberts and Ruby Bailey.
She is survived by two
sons, William C. Blankenship,
Jr., and wife, Regina, and Brian K. Blankenship of the home; two sisters, Betsy Rose of Brushfork and Virginia Dudleson
of Coalwoods; two brothers, George A. Chaffins of Hensley and Carl T. Chaffins
of Brushfork; three grandchildren, who were her life,
Samantha D. Blankenship and William C. Blankenship III, both of Roderfield, and Brittany Nicole Blankenship of Eckman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was a very loving
person and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 20,
2006, at 11 a.m. at the Roderfield Community House of
Prayer with the Rev. Johnny Akers and Brenda Blankenship
officiating. Burial followed in Mitchell Cemetery, Hensley.

Road, Princeton, died late Friday night, Jan. 12, 2007, at Princeton Community
Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1929 at Kegley, he was the
son of the late Emmett Watt
Blankenship and Gladys Mahala Neal Blankenship.Educated
in Mercer County, Junior was a retired logger and timberman. He was a former employee for the WV Department
of Highways with 10 years of service. Junior loved the outdoors, he was an avid
hunter, enjoyed going to the market for the cattle sales and to see all his
friends. Junior Blankenship was a down to earth person, was honest and
a hard worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Danny Blankenship, two brothers, Robert and Doug Blankenship and a great grandchild, Tristan Blankenship.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Billie Steele Blankenship;
a daughter, Linda Cox and husband Roger of Princeton; five

Charles Edward “Chuck” Blankenship, 59, of 701 Washington Avenue, Princeton
died suddenly Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital following
an apparent heart attack. Born May 26, 1947, at Princeton, he was the son of Charles & Bevadell
Blankenship of Wood Street in
Princeton. Chuck was educated in Princeton, was a veteran of the Vietnam
Conflict serving with the U.S. Armed Forces under the 1st Infantry Division and
the 101st Airborne Division. He received many forms of recognition for his
service including: the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,
Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharp-Shooting Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and
several commendation medals. Chuck had been employed by the West Virginia
Department of Highways for 39 Years.

PRINCETON — Henry Blankenship Jr., 83, of Old Bluefield Road, Princeton, formerly of Maitland,
died early Friday morning, March 9, 2007, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born
Dec. 15, 1923 in Iroquois, he was the son of the late Henry and Rinda Milam Blankenship. Mr.
Blankenship was a veteran of
World War II serving with
the U.S. Navy. He held a lifetime membership in the American Legion Post No. 8
of Welch. Mr. Blankenship retired
from the McDowell County Board of Education in the Maintenance Department. He
was a member of Airport Church of God, Bluefield. Henry loved playing musical
instruments, making music, and listening to bluegrass and gospel music. He had
moved from Maitland to Princeton in 2002. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Betty
Marushia Blankenship, along with three brothers, Cecil, Eddie and Johnny
Blankenship.
Survivors include his only child, Libby Rotenberry and her husband Jay of Princeton; two

Center for several years.

PRINCETON — Evelyn
C. Blankenship, 79, of Princeton Health Care Center, Princeton, died Thursday, October 30, 2008
at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton. Born May 19, 1929 in Wyoming County, she was the daughter
of the late Everett Dyson, Sr. and Toye Phillips Dyson Hatfield. Mrs. Blankenship was a homemaker
and a member of the Oceana Baptist Church in Oceana. She enjoyed gospel
music and crocheting. She was happy to have been a resident of Princeton Health Care Center for several
years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Rev. Kimbel Blankenship in 1982; one brother, Dennis Hatfield; and
her stepfather, Ellis Hatfield.
Survivors include one daughter, Dolores Mills and her husband Gary of Beeson; one son, Jimmy Blankenship and his wife Jean of Louisa, Va.; one brother, Everett Dyson, Jr. and his wife Gracie of Beeson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at
