STEPHEN E. CROOK, 21Jun1846-19FebR1927, Franklin Co., VA, Historical Society
The book was compiled from a record of deaths kept by Stephen E.
Crook of Brushy Hill, Virginia. Brushy Hill is about three miles from
Redwood, Virginia. In all, Crook noted more than 400 deaths noted ranging
in time from 1896 to 1925. The names are indexed in the front of the book just
as
Crook spelled them. Rather than transcribing the information, the notebook
that Crook kept was photocopied.
According to
information noted in the book by whoever published it, Crook was the son of
Jonathan and Louisa (Wood) Crook. He served during the Civil War as a
private in Troop A, 37th Virginia Cavalry and was a
member of the old German Baptist Church. Upon his death on February 19,
1927, he was buried in the Cook (sic) Cemetery at Brushy Hill.
