Nellie Louise Bass Bryant, age 83 of 321 G Street, wife of the late William Burris "Pete" Bryant, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Webster County, GA on September 21, 1927, Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late James Carlton Bass and Alice Blankenship Bass.

She worked in textiles for many years having worked at the Toxaway Mill, Appleton Mills and Wamsutta Mill. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Carlton Bryant of Sandy Springs, Larry Bryant and his wife, Cindy of the home, Burriss "Pete" Bryant, Jr., and his wife, Frances of Elberton, GA and Allen Bryant of Anderson; daughters, Sylvia Bowen of Anderson, Joyce Dale of Ware Shoals, Ruby Whitworth and her husband, Charles, Sr., of Anderson and Mary Bowen and her husband, Michael of Anderson; brother, Raymond Bass of Elberton; sisters, Alice Ruth Conroy of Elberton, GA, Pauline Todd of Honea Path and Margie Bridges of Elberton, GA; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, J. C. Bass, Albert Bass and Allen Bass; grandsons William and Paul Salyers and granddaughter, Alice Marie Bryant.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Ed Sayer. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Jackie L. Phillips CW4 (Retired) December 4, 1945 - October 7, 2011 Anderson, SC - Jackie L. Phillips, age 65, of 2538 Belhaven Road, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011, at AnMed Health Center, Anderson, SC. Born in Anderson, MO, on December 4, 1945, he was a son of the late UV Edward Phillips and Carol (Phillips) Murphy.

He was retired from First Flight as an EMS helicopter pilot, where his skills saved countless lives. Jackie also served 24 years in the U.S. Army as Chief Warrant Officer 4. He served in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Pamela Hyde Phillips; daughters, Melissa Pridemore, and her husband Chris of Anderson, SC and Jennifer Leahy, and her husband Bill of Ocala, FL; his mother, Carol (Phillips) Murphy of Miami, OK; sisters, Carolyn Blankenship , and her husband Ernie of Fairlane, OK and Donna Benson, and her husband John of Broken Arrow, OK; brothers, Edward Phillips and his wife Laura of Jonesville, TX and Curtis Phillips, and his wife Ann of Tulsa, OK. Jackie also leaves behind eight precious grandchildren and one great grandchild to cherish his memory.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Jackie Phillips will be held at a later date in his hometown, Miami, OK.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Mixson Blankenship, 81, of Paige Point Road in Sheldon died early Tuesday morning March 13th, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness. She was the widow of Grady Lee Blankenship. Born November 29th, 1930 in Cummings, SC she was the daughter of the late Joe Lee Mixson and Lila Mae Peeples Mixson.

Mrs. Blankenship was the owner and operator of Blankenship Construction Company in Sheldon, SC. She was a member of the Sheldon Baptist Church where she was a nursery school teacher, member of the W.M.U. and Ladies Bible Study.

Survivors include three sons: Grady Wayne Blankenship and wife Judy of Sheldon, SC, Mark Stevenson Blankenship and wife Judy of Seabrook, SC and Richard Warren Blankenship of Lady's Island, SC. There are seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons: Myron Christopher and Robert Lynn Blankenship.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 16th, 2012 at 10 A.M. in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Danny Hedgepath. Burial will follow in the Deep Branch Baptist Church Cemetery near Cummings, SC.

She is survived by three daughters: Charlotte Stinchcomb of Ladson, Gerri Bloodworth of Columbia, and Reba Clark of Alabama, two sisters, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles Clyde “Sonny” Blankenship, Jr., of Moncks Corner, SC, died Saturday morning (01 Jan 2011) at his sister’s residence. His funeral will be 3:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2011, in the Santee Circle Community Church. Interment will follow in Biggin Cemetery.

Mr. Blankenship was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Wilmington, NC, a son of Charles C. Blankenship, Sr., and Irene Dennis Blankenship. He was a member of the Santee Circle Community Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. He very much enjoyed attending NASCAR races at Darlington with his church family. He was a volunteer with RSVP and a volunteer and member of the Berkeley Seniors. Mr. Blankenship considered the Berkeley Seniors to be his extended family, and the highlight of his life was the times he spent with them bowling, shopping, playing Bingo and Uno, and the trips they would take together. He was a loving and caring person whom loved his family and friends very much and will be sadly missed by them.

 Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by a brother, William H. Blankenship.

Surviving are, two sisters, Jean Grady and Anne Harrell and her husband, James, all of Moncks Corner; a brother, Karl D. Blankenship and his wife, Irene, of Moncks Corner; two nieces, Susan Grady and Denise Barlow; three nephews, Jim Harrell, Tommy Grady, and Mike Grady; and many great nieces and nephews.

Clell Miller Rollins, 93, of Chester, S.C., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at his home in Chester. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Chester First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Interment will be held in Old Purity Cemetery.

Mr. Rollins was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Bostic, N.C., a son of the late Virgil Lee Rollins and Mary Ina Blankenship.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Rollins served as a medical technician in the Medical Detachment of the Eighth Calvary Division. Military honors received include the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge from the military in November 1946. Following his discharge from service, Mr. Rollins moved to Chester County and became a successful cotton and beef cattle farmer, a profession he loved. He was also a widely known and respected sales representative and distributor for the DeKalb Seed Company, serving the mid-state region of South Carolina for many years. An active member and officer of the Chester Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter, Mr. Rollins also served as a member of the Chester High School Agricultural Education Advisory Council, the executive committee of the Chester County Horse Show. He was named recipient of the Chester County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award by the Chester Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. Rollins was the eldest male member of the First Baptist Church of Chester and the Ben T. Plyler Sunday School class. He was a Master Mason of Chester Masonic Lodge #18 and was recognized for over 50 years of service.

Surviving Mr. Rollins are his wife of 72 years, Lessie Logan Rollins: a daughter, Jane R. Bagley of Chester; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Beth) Jane Bagley of Rock Hill and Jarrett Logan Bagley of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Ruby Towery of Aiken, S.C., Rene Smith of Bostic, N.C., and Pat Brackett of Polkville, N.C.; and one brother, Earl Rollins of Spartanburg, S.C.

Blankenship, Paul Mason age 87, of Kingsmountain, North Carolina, formerly of Middletown, passed away December 18, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gaston, North Carolina. He was born June 30, 1923 in Middletown. He had resided in North Carolina for the past ten years. He served in the Army Air Corps during W.W. II, in China, Burma, and India Theaters. He was employed for 38 years at Armco Steel retiring as Foreman in the East Processing Department. He was a member, past president and longtime trustee at the Middletown Fraternal Order of Eagles #528.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William Thomas and Lula (Borders) Blankenship; his first wife Betty Jean Kidd Blankenship; and his second wife, Blanche McIntosh Blankenship; and his daughter-in-law Carol Blankenship.

He is survived by one son, Dewey Lee Blankenship; one daughter, Beverly Ann (Harold Dean, Sr.) Tincher; six grandchildren, Katherine, Terresa, Angela, Tammy, Dwayne, and Harold "Bubby"; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Jerry) Blankenship; two sisters, Ruth (Ray) Whisman and Ethel Eckel; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by services at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Harold Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton, Ohio with military services by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

I. B. Crutchlow Jr., 83, passed away to be with his Lord and Maker on April 2, 2011. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Lucille Blankenship and Irving B. Crutchlow Sr.

I. B. was raised in Suffolk. He graduated from Virginia Tech in the school of engineering. He served with the U.S. Air Force and became a pilot. He developed a building trade business in the city of Roanoke, worked with the Roanoke Valley School System, in charge of building maintenance. He later served as engineer for the Florida Keys Roads and Bridges until he retired. I.B. was married to Phyllis Blankenship who is now deceased.

He is survived by five sisters, Echo low Hagan and her husband Fred, Nather Gray and her husband Hugh, Nancy Coley and her deceased husbands Marvin Best and Jack Coley, Susan ‍Crutchlow Stewart and her husband Earl; his deceased sister Lena Ann Ellis and her living husband, Jan Ellis, his sister, Dot and her husband Wills Pearce; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Carol Elliott; a son, Chuck Fair and wife, Janis; three grandchildren, Matthew and Somer Harrison, and Shandon Fair; and her brother, Samuel "Sam" Blankenship.

She was predeceased by a sister, Faye Blankenship; and a brother, Charles Ernest "Bud" Blankenship, Jr.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Jack L. Blankenship, 65, of Salem, S.C., formerly of Black Mountain, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011. Mr. Blankenship was born May 29, 1946, in McDowell County and was a resident of Black Mountain most of his life. He retired from RBC Bank with over 30 years of service in the banking industry. Jack enjoyed retirement, traveling, golfing, and fishing. He also served in the United States Air Force.

Jack is preceded in death by his father, Murphy Blankenship.

He is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Susan McLester Blankenship; mother, Trilby Hudgins Blankenship, of Black Mountain; sons, David Scott Blankenship, of Black Mountain, Michael Adams and wife, Whitney, of Candler, and Charlie Adams and wife, Rachel, of Asheville; sister, Debbie Wilson and husband, Vernon, of Sevierville, Tenn.; and nephew, Chad Wilson, of Charlotte.

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, December 7, at noon in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m. with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team.

Born in Oconee County to the late James Lester and Lola Crenshaw Wiggins, she was retired from J. P. Stevens in Clemson. Mrs. Gibson was the oldest member of South Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, James Edward Gibson and David Marion Gibson (Ola); daughters, Mary Barker, Diane Ford (Jimmy) and Patsy Gibson; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; and eight step-great-greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Janice Dingley, 75, of Cordova, passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, with her loving family in attendance. Janice was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Windsor, Mo. as 1 of 6 daughters and two sons of Mr. LeRoy and Mrs. Bessie Mae Perrick Miller.

She married Edward Keith (Ted) Dingley of Cordova; and was the loving mother of three sons; David (Virginia) Dingley of Rockledge, Fla.; Eric (Nancy) Dingley of Cordova, and Neil (Beverly) Dingley of Lawrenceville, Ga. and one daughter Susan (Clint) Berry of Bowman. Janice also has 12 beloved grandchildren, two sisters; Phyllis Blankenship of Sacramento, Calif., and Patty Ballinger of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; one brother; Gerald Miller of Marshall, Mo.

Janice will be remembered as a beautiful artistic Christian woman that enjoyed life to the fullest and took great pride and joy in her family. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Self and the Rev. Burt Williams officiating. Graveside burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

Josh died Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Born in Columbia, SC, on Christmas Day of 1984, he was the son of Bobby Gene Blankenship, Jr. and Susan Seastrunk Rosales. Josh grew up in Forest Acres where he attended Timmerman School, Cardinal Newman, and graduated from Camden Military Academy where he excelled in baseball. Josh was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and formerly attended Newberry College and Midlands Tech. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2003 and served 2 tours of duty in Iraq. The two loves of his life were playing piano and baseball. Josh was currently participating in the Recreational Saturday Baseball League at A.C. Flora High School.

Survivors include his mother, Susan Seastrunk Rosales, and husband, David, of West Columbia; step-sister, Wendy Lanier and husband, Derrick; step-brother, David Rosales, Jr. and wife, Katie; grandparents, The Rev. Charles and Sarah Seastrunk of Columbia; devoted uncle, Charles Seastrunk III and wife, Joy, of Columbia; as well as several cousins. Josh was preceded in death by Rev. Charles E. Seastrunk, Sr. and wife, Louise, and Rev. Dr. Neil Truesdell and Sarah Lee.

Freeland L. Ward, Sr., "Bullet", 74, of 3000 Elmhurst Drive, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 2, 2011, after a long illness. Mr. Ward was born in Fort Mill, SC on December 11, 1936. He was the son of the late Courtney R. and Ola L. Ward of Fort Mill, SC. Enlarge Freeland L. "Bullet" Ward, Sr.

He graduated from Fort Mill High School, served in the US Army, and was a former SC Highway Patrolman. He was a member of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge #111, a Shriner and a member of Gateway Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla V. Ward and four children, Deborah W. Tapia and her husband Salvador of Boiling Springs, SC, Freeland Ward, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC, Cynthia Ward of Spartanburg, SC, and Karen Ward Hames and her boyfriend Rick Wooten of Drayton, SC; five grandchildren, Erin Atkins, Kristen and Chris Hames, Jessica and Melinda Tapia; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Evie Atkins. He also has three brothers, David R. Ward and wife Peggy of Fort Mill, SC, Bill Ward and wife Belinda of Camden, SC, and Dan R. Ward, Sr. and wife Dare of Pickens, SC; a sister-in-law, Brenda Ward and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Steven J. Blankenship; and a brother, Jimmy L. Ward, Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Gateway Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Ray Stuart. Interment will follow at Fort Prince Memorial Gardens with military rites. Pallbearers will be Billy Ward, Dan Ward, Jr., Haney Hancock, Shawn Carroll, Randy Charles and Kyle Revels.

Barbara Ann Blankenship Reynolds, 73, of 3847 Old Georgia Hwy., formerly of Chesnee, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2012, at her residence. Ms. Reynolds, born in Golden Valley, N.C., was the daughter of Darlis Smith Blankenship and the late Calvin Lee Blankenship. She was a devoted mother, employed in the textile industry and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Reynolds is survived by a daughter, DeAnna R. Simon and husband, Andrew, of the home; a son, Michael Lee Hoyle and wife, Kathy, of Rutherford, N.C.; a sister, Mildred Gordon of Forest City, N.C.; three brothers, Coy Blankenship of Forest City, N.C., Wayne Blankenship of Mayo and Hershal Blankenship of Golden Valley, N.C.; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Eugene Hoyle.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 9, in Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel, 211 East Frederick St., Gaffney, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joey Turner. Burial will follow in Springhill Memorial Gardens, 1011 S. Alabama Ave., Chesnee.

Billy Franklin Panther, 77, of Landrum passed away June 16, 2010. He was the son of the late Bessie Fowler and John Henry Panther and the husband of Helen Blankenship Panther.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Cindy Foster (Tom); a stepson, Terry Butler of Forest City; a stepdaughter, Patricia Vandiver (Jim) of Charlotte; two grandchildren; a niece, Linda Ramsey (Steve) of Kings Mountain and a nephew, Larry Panther (Patsy) of Hendersonville.

He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Lakaris.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Polk Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor Todd Johnson.

Cleo Raines Blankenship, 93, the widow of Charles Leonard Blankenship, peacefully passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born in Richland County, SC, Mrs. Blankenship was a daughter of the late Curtis A. and Addie Pleasant Raines.

She was a homemaker, a member of the former Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, a present member of Central United Methodist Church and a loving and much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her daughters, Dianne B. Mercer and husband, David of Spartanburg and Brenda B. Coggins and husband, Tommy of Cowpens; her granddaughters, Hailey C. Dill and husband, Tim of Roebuck and Chelsea Coggins of Cowpens; and her great-granddaughters, Hayden, Evyn and Peyton.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie Lands, Pearl Raines, and Mary Jankowski; and her brother, Clyde Raines.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Bobo Funeral Chapel followed by chapel services at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Dr. Michael Bradley with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Regina Wilbanks and husband, Wilbur; five grandchildren, Kim High and husband, Grant, Randy Howarth, Trish Taylor, and Lee Wilbanks; three great-grandchildren, Damian Howarth, and Jacob and Jordan High; a brother, Donald Quesenberry and wife, May; and two sisters, Shirley Blankenship and Ann Patterson and husband, Hubert.

She was predeceased by a brother, Billy Silvers.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Westgate Freewill Baptist with Rev. Kevin Smith officiating.

Born in 1932, in Lenoir, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Fredrick and Lydia Blankenship Warren. Mrs. Warren was retired from the telephone company.

Survivors include her sister, Lois Thomas of Fort Mill; one brother, David Lee Warren of Fernadina Beach, Fla.

Elsie Martha Thomas Castle, 93, of 6 Lynwood Cr. died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Willow Brook Nursing Center in Rock Hill. A memorial service will be at held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2011, at The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd. Father Donald Lowery will be officiating.

Elsie was a daughter of the late Wilbur C. Thomas and Josephine Bauman Thomas Barrett Palmer. She was the widow of James Eugene Castle. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Elsie will be remembered as a very patient teacher, and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was a stamp collector, enjoyed cooking and sewing, was avid gardener, loved to play bridge and enjoyed painting. She was a member of the York Artist Guild, York White Rose Book Club, served her church many years as an alter guild, and edited a cookbook for the church.

She is survived by daughter, Sharon Blankenship and husband, Charles Robert of Greer, S.C.; son, David Castle and wife, Delores Lake of Sanford, N.C.; brother, Howard Thomas of Canton, Ga.; three grandchildren, Nancy Lynne Gaspari and husband, John, Cynthia Anne Poupard and husband, Randall and Michael D. Castle and wife, Candice; and two great grandchildren, Braydon Castle and Kinsington Lake Castle.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Jeanne Castle; two brothers, Wilbur Thomas and Mark Thomas;her half brother, Carl Barrett; two stepsisters, Helen Barrett Hansen and Verna Barrett Hale; and stepbrother John Elmo Barrett.
