Judy K. Cutts, 58, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Funeral services will be held at Ray Funeral Home, on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11 a.m.. Burial will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Phillips, Arthur Holmes, Larry Scott, Ramon Kelly, Larry Johnson, Larry Walker, Simon Carter, and Earl Phillips.

Mrs. Cutts was born on July 17, 1951 to Hershel Winters and Sherline Henson Carey. She was married to Charles Cutts. Judy worked in education for 35 years at the Bolivar County School District. She attended the Cleveland Church of the Nazarene. She was a beloved wife, mother, and educator who taught not only her students, but every heart she touched to live life to the fullest and never give up hope.

She is preceded in death by her parents Hershel Winters of Batesville, MS and Sherline Henson Carey and James E. Carey of Cleveland, MS.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Cutts; daughter Jessika Cutts of Hattisburg, MS; sisters Diane Horton of Cleveland, MS, Renee Buckley of Hickory, MS; Billie Ferguson of Madison, MS, Sheila Darvy of Batesville, MS, Teresa Barnes of Batesville, MS, Cricket Blankenship of Batesville, MS and brothers Jim Carey, Charleston, SC, Peanut Winters of Batesville, MS, Shane Winters of Batesville, MS.

Gladys B. Powell Elliott, age 88, of West Point, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss. Gladys was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Clay County to the late Mattie Mae Andrews and William Raymond Blankenship. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point.

Funeral services are today, Sunday, June 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Robinson Chapel with the Rev. Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Christopher Paul Goss, Marcus Brian Goss, Chandler Dean Goss, Joseph Tyler Goss, Herbert Wooten, Danny Bailey, Randy Simmons. Honorary pallbearers are her friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Powell Goss of Conyers, Ga.; five grandchildren: Christopher Paul Goss, Marcus Brian Goss, Bethany Rae Hofmann, Joseph Tyler Goss, Chandler Dean Goss; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

George Fernando Hicks, 89, a native of Clarksdale, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. Hicks was a native of Clarksdale, Miss., and the first child of the late Rev. Oliver and Dereanzy Hicks.

He was a product of the Clarksdale and Coahoma County School System and a 1955 graduate of Alcorn College. He became a loyal supporter and leader of the Chicago Chapter of the Alcorn College Alumni where he served as president of the chapter for 12 years. Later he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Alcorn College. As a young man, Hicks became interested in music and played in several bands as a drummer. He served in the armed forces as a paratrooper and started his early career as a teacher in the Clarksdale and Coahoma County School System. Later he moved his family to Chicago and became a manager for the Chicago Housing Authority where he worked until his retirement.

Hicks is survived by a loving wife, Armentra Weatherspoon Hicks; two daughters, Oliphier Blankenship and her husband, Kup; and Samara Byrd and her husband, James; one son, B. C. Gipson and his wife, Dean; four sisters, Mattie Singletary and her husband, James; Tobia Hill and her husband, Clinton; Cora L. Hicks, and Connie J. Hicks; one brother, Oliver Hicks and his wife, Gardenia; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Euzilla and Robert Vaughn, and a daughter, Barbara Woods McCray.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday in Chicago, Ill.

Margie Ruth Berry, 85, retired from Mid-South Title Company, died November 21, 2011 at her home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service at 12 noon Friday, November 25 at Hernando Funeral Home. Interment in New Bethlehem Cemetery.

Mrs. Berry leaves her husband, Gerald Berry; three daughters, Donna Biggers (Kendall) of Southaven, Jane Hogan (Shawn) of Memphis, TN and Ruth Anne Thompson (Mike) of Southaven; one son, Robert Guy Blankenship (Patty) of Cordova; three stepdaughters, Debra Brown (Johnny) of West Memphis, AR, Brenda Hall (Kevin) and Missy Neisler (Deon), both of Forrest City, AR; two sisters, Doris Elliot and Virginia Holder, both of Memphis; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Cora Elizabeth Ranlett Blankenship Beach, of Bay St. Louis, MS, peacefully passed to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 92. She was the matriarch of the Blankenship family. Cora was born in New Orleans, LA to the late Thomas Jenkins Semmes Ranlett and Adele Olive White Ranlett. After their premature deaths she and her siblings were reared by her great-aunt "Nana", Hannah Olive White and grandmother "Nanine", Cora Semmes Ranlett.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene A. Blankenship; second husband, Paul M. Beach; brothers: Thomas Jenkins Semmes Ranlett, Jr., and Albert Sidney Ranlett III; sisters: Adele Olive Ranlett Ferguson, and Theodora Ranlett Schmalz; daughters: Eleanor Blankenship Hyman, and Jean Marie Blankenship; and grandchildren: Jeannine Cavalier and Scott Blankenship.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Ranlett Hutsler Rolf of Los Angeles, CA.; children: Thomas Jenkins Semmes Ranlett Blankenship (Sherry), Cora Blankenship Macormic, Lynn Blankenship Mahoney (John), and Barbara Blankenship Mattix Ferguson (Scott); 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She attended McMain High School and Newcomb College. She is the 9th generation of "Semmes America" by Anderson Humphreys and Curt Guenther. She loved her family, and enjoyed life to the fullest. An avid history buff who enjoyed teaching and learning new things, particularly anything about New Orleans. Her favorite past time activities included cooking, reading mysteries and cookbooks, eating seafood at New Orleans restaurants, shopping in the French Quarter, and watching Antiques Road Show, Jeopardy and Justin Wilson on TV.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 1:00PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park.

John Rexal Harris, II, USAF Major, Ret., age 66, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed from this life on Thursday, March 8, 2012. John was born November 7, 1945 in Jackson, MS to John R. Harris, Sr. and Melba Watkins Harris.

A graduate of USM, John was an adoring and admired husband, father, brother, grandfather, godfather, and uncle. In addition to these, John was a renaissance southern gentleman in every sense of the words. He was a gifted wordsmith, a talented singer, a USAF C-130 navigator and Hurricane Hunter, a Sig Ep fraternity brother, a defender of right, a hero, an avid photographer, a computer systems analyst and "Mad Techie," an instructor, a mentor, co-founder of the "Harris Halfway House," an enthusiastic cook, a punster, an amateur architect, a theater lover, a sports fan, a recital goer, a "do-it-yourselfer," a world traveler, and the list goes on. In his life, John made friends wherever he went, both through real world travels and online. His career moved him to San Antonio, TX; Sacramento, CA; Abilene, TX; Little Rock, AR; Hattiesburg, MS; Philippines; Ocean Springs, MS; Guam; Troy, IL; Fort Walton Beach, FL; and Annapolis, MD.

John ("Johnny" to loved ones) rejoins his beloved wife of 40 years, Charlene, son-in-law, Chip Layson, brother, David, and his parents.

He is sorely missed by daughters Kerri Anne Thompson of Ocean Springs, MS and Heather Layson (Derek) Brown, of Winter Park, FL; his grandchildren Rhyan Elizabeth Thompson, Miles Derek Brown, Zed Clark Layson V, Kyle Justin Brown, Skylar Elysse Thompson, Caroline Grace Layson, and Harris McIntyre Layson; his sister, Marcia Belinda (Ronald) Gilstrap of Philadelphia, MS: his brother, William Paul (Jackie) Harris of Bloomington, IL; his sister-in-law Kathleen (Bob) Blankenship of Tyler, TX; his brother-in-law David (Celeste) Glass of Slidell, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. George William Blankenship, Ret. Maj.,US Army, age 69, of Gulfport, MS, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport.

The funeral service will be Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Mullins, officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will immediately follow in Curtis Chapel Cemetery in Starkville, MS. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Blankenship, Larry Blankenship, Dewayne Blankenship, Sidney Thompson, Jr., Kenneth Thompson, and David Lee White.

The son of the late Willie Edgar and Mary Belle Odum Blankenship, he was born August 3, 1942 in Mayhew, MS. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he retired from the US Army with the rank of Major as Chief Communications Equipment Maintenance and Operations in the Signal Corps. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medals, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star, as well as numerous other awards. He also served tours of duty in Korea, Germany and several Army posts in the United States.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Willie Edgar Blankenship, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Suki Huang Blankenship of Gulfport, MS, son Willie Blankenship of Whiteman AFB, Knob Noster, MO, daughters Brandy Blankenship and her husband Mag of Charlotte, NC and Donna Blankenship Jackson of Hamilton, MS., brothers Larry Blankenship and his wife Barbara of Raymond, MS and Jimmy Blankenship and his wife Shirley of Columbus, sisters Mary V. Thompson and her husband Sidney and Betty Buchanan, all of Columbus and a sister-in-law Linda Blankenship of Bean Station, TN. He is also survived by his grandsons Michael Blankenship, and Mitch and Miles Jackson.

James Douglas "Doug" Blankenship, 69, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Care Center of Clinton. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel with visitation starting an hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Doug was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clinton. He attended the MS School for the Blind.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry Blankenship and his wife, Peggy; and nephews, Jerry Blankenship, Jr. and fiancé, Victoria Vaughn and Jonathan Blankenship.

The funeral for Jerry David Williams will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. The Rev. James L. Winter, rector, will preside. Visitation will be held Monday, January 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Church Student Center and on Tuesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. before the service. He will be interred in the church columbarium.

Mr. Williams died Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 80 years old. A longtime resident of Starkville, Mr. Williams was born in Murray, Ky., and graduated from Murray State University with a degree in music education. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity and received his Masters of Music Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He served in the 3rd Armed Division of the U. S. Army at Ft. Knox, Ky. and was a member of the 179th Army Band at Ft. Carson, Colo. Mr. Williams taught music in Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee, before moving to Starkville, where he was music director at First United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. For many years, he conducted liturgy in Hebrew at Temple B'nai Israel in Columbus. He was employed by Mississippi State University for 36 years, where he was Head of the Choral Department and founded the University Madrigal Singers. Mr. Williams served as Director of State Music Camp for over 30 years and as an advisor to vocal and piano majors at the University. He was a member of the National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, Music Educators National Conference, Tennessee Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, LaVora Holland William, and survived by two daughters, Malinda (Rob) Cox of Ft. Bragg, N. C., and Rebekah (Steve) Smith of Ada, Mich.; a foster daughter Susan (Shaw) Blankenship of Crab Orchard, Ky.; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Kay T. Brown, 94, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 31, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Fulton, she was born May 1, 1916, to Davis E. and Carra Lee Burch Thorn.

She worked for Kruger Industries until she retired. She loved reading, especially her Bible and the newspaper. She enjoyed working in her yard, especially her flower garden, family get-togethers and was devoted to her family. She was the widow of Fletcher Ellis who died in 1935 and her second husband, John H. Brown who died in 1956. She was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Dale Carr officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Westmoreland, Dwayne Franks, Chad Blankenship, Kevin Herring, Jason Crump, and William Heard.

Survivors include three children, Ann Witt (Charles)of Pontotoc, Herman (Bud) Brown of Plantersville, and Sandra Gail Barton (Davis) of Pontotoc; two sisters, Sarah Patton of Tupelo and Toby Murphy of Belden; eight grandchildren, Janice Franks, Gene Johnson, Sharon Westmoreland, Laura McNutt,Michelle Johnson, Bill McNutt, Dallas Blankenship, and Kathy Brown; 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first and second husbands; two brothers, Yates Thorn and L. R. Thorn.

Ted A. Blankenship, age 83, of Madison died August 31, 2011 at his home. A graveside memorial service will be conducted Saturday September 3, 2011 at 9:00am at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison with Military Honors. A native of Bessemer, Alabama, Mr. Blankenship was a United States Marine and served during the Korean War. He has resided in Madison for the past 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Blankenship and survived by his daughter, Julia Marie Blankenship of Florence; sons, Ed Blankenship (wife Megan) of Madison, David Mattox (wife Dianne) of Madison and Mark Blankenship of Paris, TN. A brother, Louie Blankenship (wife Ramona) of Montgomery, AL and 17 grandchildren also survive him.

Mrs. Strickland is survived by husband J. W. Strickland of Perkinston, MS and her seven children; James (Madlyn) Strickland of Ellisville, Randall Strickland of Wiggins, Linda (Bob) Davis of Wiggins, Gill Strickland of Wiggins, Bruce (Donna) Strickland of Wiggins, Helen (Walter) Jenkins of Gulfport, MS, Sherlyn (Danny) Lawson of Perkinston, MS, Sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
