Isabel - Colin Cargill, 66, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita. He was born Aug. 28, 1944, in Hardtner, the son of Hillmon and Aline (Chain) Cargill.

Colin was a graduate of the Ranch Management Program at Texas Christian University. He served in the National Guard for 6 years and spent most of his life as a rancher, stockman and farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge. On March 6, 1968, he married Ann Smith in Sharon.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; a son, Chad and wife Patricia Cargill, Isabel; two grandchildren, Sierra and Carson; two sisters, Dovie and husband Ray Martin, Isabel and LaDene and husband Stan Blankenship,

Kechi. Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge with Pastor Tom Walters presiding.  Burial will be in Mumford Cemetery, Nashville.

Zelma Rose Hall, 80, died April 3, 2011, at South Wind Hospice Home, Pratt. She was born Oct. 23, 1930, at Sun City to Arbey J. and Susan K.C. Farris Keller.

A lifetime Sun City area resident, she was a homemaker. On June 16, 1956, she married Robert "Bob" D. Hall at Clovis, N.M. He survives. Other survivors include: a son, Robert D. Hall, Iuka; a daughter, Anita L. Twiner, Pratt; two brothers, Cliff and A. J. Keller, both of Pratt; two sisters, Elizabeth McGee, Sun City, and Carol Blankenship, Pratt; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary, with Minister John Hamm and Pastor Deitra Black officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City.

Sara Louise Krull, age 82, a resident of Fort Scott, died early Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. She was born December 27, 1927, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Frank How Blankenship and Mary Jane McGuire.

She married Floyd Krull on June 24, 1961. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2000. Sara was a graduate of the Fort Scott High School. She later worked as a claims examiner for the Western Insurance Company from 1947 to 1988. She was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Bourbon County Historical Society and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed collecting antiques.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Kregg Blankenship and wife, Mary, Lynda Kay Blankenship Allen, Mary Ann Kerley and husband, Richard, Diana Blankenship King, Patty Lou Coleman, Brad Baier, Ben Baier and wife, Laura, Tammara Manna and husband, Kevin and Mary Becker. Also surviving are numerous great and greatgreat-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Mike, Nebby and Bernard Blankenship and two sisters, Carolyn Matthews and Patricia Jackson.

Pastor Gary Demott will conduct funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery.

Barbara N. Gipson, 77, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born in El Dorado on July 30, 1932, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Lewis) Blankenship . Barbara graduated from El Dorado High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church; Circles of the Church; Fidgety Fifteen; she was always there for her family; and enjoyed reading, decorating. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, dancing and piano music. On Aug. 25, 1950 she was married to Lewis (Jack) Gipson in a ceremony at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2007.

Those who survive include: her son, Jack Gipson of Kansas City, Mo.; her daughter, and her husband Rhonda and Chuck Call of El Dorado; two grandsons and their wives, Jonas and Diep McBride and Christopher and Nikki Call; one great-granddaughter, Karis McBride; and three great-grandsons, Hayden Brooks, Thor McBride and Jackson Call.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her parents.

A. Lucile (Tanner) Collins Blankenship, Date of birth: 09/02/1920 El Dorado, Kan. -

On Jan. 29, 2010, A. Lucile (Tanner) Collins Blankenship, left this world to be reunited with loved ones gone before her. Lucile was the matriarch of a five generation family and will be greatly missed. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Interment will follow the funeral in Sunset Lawns.

She was born on Sept. 2, 1920 in Cainsville, Mo.m the daughter of Herbert E. and Audie (Hart) Tanner. She graduated from Cainsville High School and then received a teaching certificate. She was married to Max Collins on April 15, 1939 in Cainsville and he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1970. She later was married to Harold Blankenship, he also preceded her in death in March of 1987. After the death of her husband she worked at McDonald Department Store in downtown El Dorado. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; Eastern Star; Grandmothers Club; PTA; and loved to crochet, garden and especially being with her family.

Those who survive are: daughters, Marcia Guy and husband Gerald of El Dorado and Trudy Claycamp and husband Duane of Augusta; a daughter-in-law, Bertha Collins of Hooker, Okla.; her grandchildren, Michelle (Peter) Helten of Augusta, Robert (Kelly) Ward of Wichita, Jeff (Karla) Claycamp of Wichita, Michael (Amy) Ward of El Dorado, Shannon Martinez of Wichita and David Collins of Silver Lake; four step-grandchildren, Jeff (Liana) Guy, Andrea (Chris) Guynn, Jeremy Guy and Cherry (Clay) Rider of Hooker, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Aaron (Kristie) Haskell of Augusta, Kristi Haskell of Olathe, Tyler and Taylor Ward of Wichita, Madison and Kameron Ward of El Dorado, Dillon Collins of Silver Lake, Kinsley and Landon Claycamp of Wichita, Tanner Martinez of Wichita, and one on the way, Noah Michael Ward; and eight step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren including Easton Head, Olathe and Payton, Kinleigh and Brody Haskell of Augusta.

Mary Esther Canon, 90, of Leon, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in El Dorado. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blankenship Cemetery.

Esther was born July 27, 1920, in Rosalia, the daughter of Lloyd and Shirley (Young) Lucas. She was a homemaker and had lived in Latham since 1945. Esther loved to sew, shop and help her husband on the ranch. She was married to Gay Canon on Feb. 2, 1942, in Wellington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1989.

She leaves a nephew, Mark (LuAnne) Lucas of Leon; nieces, Sherry Lucas of Wichita, Rene' (Ken) Kehres of El Dorado; sister-in-law, Betty Lucas of Leon; three great-nephews; one great-niece; and many great-great nephews and nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill.

Marilyn Joyce Aldridge Watkins, of Lowell, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 30, 2010, at 2:32 a.m. She passed after an extended illness, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 25, 1935, in Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kan., to Richard Francis Aldridge Sr. and Dorothy Louise Blankenship Aldridge.

Marilyn grew up in Kansas City, Kan. She attended Wyandotte High School, Kansas City Business College, Kansas City Kansas Community College and Pittsburg State University. She was a retired registered nurse licensed in Kansas, Missouri and Colorado. Marilyn married Robert J. Watkins, of Galena, Kan., on March 27, 1954. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2004.

Marilyn and Robert lived in Galena, Kansas City, and Chetopa, Kan., before settling in the Baxter Springs, Kan., area. She was a professional nurse, homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marilyn was a member of the Lowell Friends Church where over the years she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the Women's Missionary Group and the Church Choir. She was a member of the Cherokee County Arts Association, Riverton Lowell Lioness Club and the American Nurses Association. She was a published artist and photographer. Her hobbies included scrap booking. She also loved to read and especially enjoyed poetry.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Francis Aldridge Sr.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Robert J. Watkins, of Lowell; and five children, Robert Keith Watkins, of Baxter Springs, Audrey Watkins Chubb and husband, David, of Galena, Gary Lee Watkins and wife, Pam, of Lenexa, Kan., Kelly Alan Watkins, of Galena, and Andrea Watkins Abbott and husband, Darren, of Baxter Springs. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Blankenship Aldridge, of Webb City; four brothers and three sisters, Richard Francis Aldridge Jr. (Marcia), of Alabama, Billy George Aldridge, of Missouri, John Phillip Aldridge (Betty), of Kansas, Marcia Aldridge Sheehan (Arthur), of Nevada, Charles Wayne Aldridge (Yvonne), of Kansas, Karen Aldridge Keath (Danny), of Arizona, and Linda Aldridge Scott (Lee), of Arkansas. Marilyn is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Greg Watkins Robertson, Trevor Keith Watkins, Aaron Thomas Neet, Carrie Lea McInturff, Margaret Ann Asikainen, Kristen M. Watkins, Justin T. Watkins, Kelsey A. Rodriguez, Kristopher A. Watkins, Andrew M. Moreno, Ashley M. Moreno, Landon M. Abbott and Logan M. Abbott; five step grandchildren, Shane Watkins, Danielle Gleason, Ryan Gleason, Geoff Gleason and Jordan Gleason; and seven great-grandchildren, Gabriel Phillip Neet, Devin Watkins, Teghan Watkins, Chloe Watkins, Matthew Kirt Asikainen, Chloe Jane Asikainen, and Kairi Grace McInturff.

Wendell Lawrence Maddox, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Hazelton to Lawrence E. and Ina Williams Maddox.

He married Arlene Gumm on April 1, 1951, at The First Presbyterian Church in Kingstown. Mr. Maddox was a Service Technician for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Maddox; three sons, Lyndell Eugene Maddox of The Woodlands, Texas, Owen Dean Maddox, Boston, and Arlan Lee Maddox, San Francisco; one stepbrother, Linn Blankenship, Wichita; one stepsister, Phyllis Karney, Naples, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Dorothy Maddox.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd St., Hays, Kansas 67601. Military Honors will be performed by the Hays V.F.W. and Hays American Legion. Burial is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hazelton.

Clarence "Curt" Smith, 85, of Garden City, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born May 24, 1925, in Sublette, to Corneilus and Marie Koehn Smith.

A lifetime area resident, Mr. Smith was a truck driver for Gardiner & Fairmont Dairies.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Rose Smith, whom he married on Oct. 19, 1953, in Garden City; three sons, David and Jerald Smith, both of Garden City, and Carl Smith of Palm Coast, Fla.; four daughters, Carolyn and Karla Smith, both of Garden City, Rose Gassett of Perryton, Texas, and Shirley Blankenship of Satanta; two brothers, William Smith of Dodge City, and Andrew Clyde Smith of Cimarron; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Smith; and an infant sister.

Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Cimarron. Burial will be at Cimarron Cemetery.

Warren Fredricks Bruner (Pappy), 70, Rantoul, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his home. He was born July 13, 1939 at home in rural Rantoul, Kan., the son of Geneva M. (Lockwood) and Earl Fredricks Bruner.

Warren grew up in the Rantoul area and attended country rural schools there. He attended Ottawa High School and graduated in 1957. He married Lois Anne Blankenship Oct. 31, 1959, at the Ruhamah Baptist Church. Warren and Lois shared their 50th wedding anniversary together in October. Warren worked as a carpenter and a construction worker. He owned his own construction company and built homes and condominiums in the Kansas City area during the 1970s. fter working as a construction worker, he worked for Franklin County Public Works Dept. as a blade operator from 1991 to 1999. He was a member of the National Guard and a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church. Warren's maternal grandparents deeded their homestead with 40 acres to him. Warren and Lois have resided there since they were married. Warren started as a young boy with one registered Hereford cow,increased his herd and eventually changed to Angus cattle. Warren was able to keep the herd during his lengthy illness due to the help of his friends, Steve and Sherry Froggatte and their family. He loved to watch his cattle and enjoyed being around them, loved to bowl, and loved to build handcrafted pieces for his wife. His greatest joy was helping others and taking care of his family. He was a member of the Ottawa Men's Bowling Association and Greater Douglas County Bowling Association. His proudest moment while bowling in a league was to bowl a 299 game and then followed with a perfect 300 game.

 Survivors include his wife, Lois of the home; sons Gail F. Bruner of Rantoul and Randy J. Bruner and his wife Nicol, Hesston; brother Wayne and his wife Maxine Bruner, Rantoul; sister-in-law Linda M. Kistner, Vassar; four grandchildren, Bryce, Luke, Logan and Brayden Bruner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Lola (Whitacre) Blankenship .

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Princeton Cemetery.

Helen C. Blankenship, age 85, of Fall River, Kansas, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at her home. Helen was born on April 26, 1926 in Alma, [Wabaunsee Co.] Kansas the daughter of George William and Laura Ann (Schreiber) Thowe.

On November 29, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas Helen married Jack R. Blankenship, Helen and Jack were married for 51 years, Jack survives at their home.

Helen worked on her farm with her husband Jack, working in the fields and taking care of livestock. Helen was a member of the Fall River United Methodist Church, and active with the Methodist Women’s group. When not working on the farm or taking care of her family and home, Helen was active with the Fredonia Promenade, Fall River 4-H Club, Fall River Booster Club, Fall River over 55ers, and the Square Stoppers out of Independence, Kansas. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed sewing, quilting, and all types of stitch work. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family and cooking for them.

Survivors including her husband Jack are: Four Sons: Alex Blankenship of Independence, Kansas, Kim Blankenship of Valley Center, Kansas, Eric Blankenship of Wakarusa, Kansas, David Wolford of Fall River, Kansas, Two Daughters; Jackie Hale of Liberty, Kansas, Melody Frazier of Wichita, Kansas, Brother: Ralph Thowe of Wichita, Kansas, Sister: Grace Hanser of Glen Carbon, Illinois, 17 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Esther Socha, and two brother in laws Art Socha and Carl Hanser.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Fall River United Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Galvan officiating, with burial to follow at the Eureka City Cemetery.

Phyllis Ilene Russell, 81, of Satanta, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Satanta District Hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Arnold, to Ralph Masters and Clara Jane Hayes Nickel. Mrs. Russell had worked for Vo Tech Book Store in Liberal. She had been a Satanta resident since 2001.

Survivors include four sons, Monte Russell of Sparks, Nev., Lonte Russell of Sacramento, Calif., Alan Russell of San Bernardino, Calif., and Steven Russell of Clarksville, Tenn.; four daughters, Keithetta Dillon of Satanta, Phyllis Bradley of Liberal, LuAnn Metcalf of Ava, Mo., and Ellen Blankenship of Big Springs, Texas; a sister, Thelma Nickel of Atwood; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Keith Russell, died in June 1980. Ida J. Newberry, 99, passed away on Friday (March 25, 2011) at her home in Newton. She was born on Feb. 18, 1912, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to George and Pearl (Stevens) Kendall.

On Jan. 17, 1931, Ida married Loyd D. Newberry in Argyle, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1991. Ida loved flowers, gardening, reading and fishing. She enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends and family. For many years, she participated in league bowling at the Newton bowling lanes. Ida recently received recognition for 66 years as a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Porter and husband, Melvin of Newton and Florence Blankenship of Placentia, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Janis Newberry of Lee Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, Marla Sharp and husband, Morgan of Newton, Valeria Skitt and husband, Rod of Longmont, Colo., Shelley Baker of Centennial, Colo., Doug Porter and wife, Kim of South Hutchinson, Tim Porter and wife, Heidi of Newton, Rochelle Schrowangen and husband, Chris of Coppell, Texas, Brad Blankenship and wife, Jessica of Mayfield, Ohio, Kristi Allard and husband, Kenneth of San Clemente, Calif., and Myles Newberry and wife, Nancy of Sterling, Ill.; 14 great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Bryce Michael Rader, 28, of Mission, Kan., formerly of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Sunday, July 24, 2011, as a result of injuries from an apartment fire that also took the life of his girlfriend, Jessica Theodoroff. Bryce was born March 25, 1983, in Independence, Mo. He was the son of Bill and Richelle Rader of Lee's Summit. Bryce graduated from Lee's Summit High School in 2001 and attended Longview College. He was employed by Strahm Automation and Mailing, Kansas City. Bryce loved ice and roller hockey, the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. He will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Bryce is survived by his parents, his brother Bradley Rader, sister Kaitlin Rader, sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Jared Blankenship, nieces Karrigan and Kendall and nephew Karson Blankenship, all of Lee's Summit. He also is survived by his grandparents, Dorl and Betty Jo Rader of Larned, Kan., as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rev. Richard and Deloris Person of Belton, Mo.

Bryce will be remembered in a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Lee's Summit Christian Church, Missouri 291 and Tudor Road in Lee's Summit, Mo. Private inurnment will follow in the Lee's Summit Christian Church Columbarium.

Chorean Blankenship Weeks passed away at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home on August 4, 2011. Chorean was born on a little farm in Northern Arkansas on February 27, 1915 to Mettie & Joe Blankenship.

She is survived by a daughter, Reta Ousdahl, of Shawnee, Kansas, and three granddaughters & their husbands, as well as five great- granddaughters, one great grandson, and a great grandson-in-law. She is also survived by a sister, and one step- daughter.

Services for Chorean will be held in Yellville, Arkansas, on August 13, 2011. Any memorials in her honor could be sent to the Lenexa Church of Christ, Lenexa, Kansas.

Lily Ann Blankenship, 94, of Chetopa died at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Chetopa Manor nursing home. She was born on March 27, 1917, at Lowry, S. D., to Mike and Magdelina (Miller) Goering.

She grew up and attended school there. She graduated from Selby High School and then Northern State University at Aberdeen, S. D. Mrs. Blankenship taught school in a one-room school house in Walworth County, S. D., from 1938 to 1940 and then taught elementary school at Gettysburg, S. D., from 1942 to 1944. On Jan. 25, 1948, she married Dave Blankenship at Lowry, S. D. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1997. Following their marriage, they moved to Chetopa, where she had lived since. While living in Chetopa, she served as the school librarian for Chetopa High School. She enjoyed horse racing, picking pecans and cooking family dinners. She was well known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. She was a member of United Methodist Church at Chetopa. She was also a member of a bridge club and the Junior Home Culture Club in the past.

Survivors include two sons, Dan Blankenship and Tim Blankenship, both of Chetopa; a daughter, Covina Bryson of Venice, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Elfrieda Holtzwarth of Mobridge, S. D.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and a sister.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery at Chetopa.

George W. Gabrick 81, Leavenworth George W. Gabrick, 81, Leavenworth, KS unexpectedly passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Hospital, Leavenworth, KS. He was one of three siblings. He was born December 24, 1928 at Leavenworth, KS the middle son of Stephen J. and Edith McMillen Gabrick.

He was happily married to Mary L. Gabrick over half his lifetime. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents Stephen J. and Edith Gabrick and his daugher Cecilia Blankenship .

He served in the Navy for seven years, retired from Graham Trucking with over thirty years of service. Most lifelong friends knew him as a good time, fun loving, dancing fool, always having classy cars and trucks. Also, as their personal mechanic, CB Handle "Trader" due to bartering work for work.

His surviving family includes; sons, George Stephen Gabrick, Kevin (Deda)Williams, Robert Williams, daughters, Debbie (Earl) Varner, Cindy (Bryan) Yates, Lisa Gabrick, Ruth Daniels, brothers, Stephen J. (Margarite) Gabrick, Boston, MA, Charles F. (Janet) Gabrick, Vallejo, CA, 16+ grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 10 A.M Friday, August 13, 2010 at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the Leaveworth National Cemetery.

Jimmie Joe Blankenship, 73 year old Coffeyville resident passed away at his home Sunday, May, 1, 2011. He was born in Delaware, Oklahoma, July 18, 1937, to Jessie Lee and Opal Jewel (Sellers) Blankenship. He attended school in Delaware. Jimmie was a carpenter and enjoyed building things. He liked to fish and be in the outdoors.

His family includes his children; Jimmy Lee Blankenship and his wife Julie, of Bartlesville, Debra Lynn Blankenship, of Bartlesville, Terry Dwayne Blankenship, and his wife, Jennie, of Coffeyville, Kansas, Pamela Wohlford, and her husband Richard, of Bartlesville, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three sisters. One brother precedes him in death.

Memorial Services will be held at the American Legion at 811 W. 12th, Coffeyville, Kansas on May 14 at 1:00 p.m

Martha Craig T. Burress 1928-2010 Martha Craig T. Burress, 81, Erie, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at Labette Health in Parsons. Her death was unexpected. She was born Nov. 2, 1928, at Booneville, Miss., to Henry Clyde and Mildred Glenn McCarley Tays.

During her childhood years her family lived at Booneville and later moved to Chickasaw (Mobile) Alabama where she graduated from the Murphy High School. She then attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Miss., and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. On June 21, 1950, she marriage M. Tom Burress at Booneville, Miss. He survives. After their marriage, they lived in Jonesboro, Ark., for a year and then Mr. Burress was drafted, and enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corp. He was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii, where Martha lived too until his discharge in 1954. They then moved to Erie. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She was a member of the Erie Federated Church; board member, officer and chair of the Erie Library Board; a Red Cross swimming instructor; Camp Fire Girl leader; and part of the Monday Night Sewing Ladies. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Mem Erie Historical Society. She volunteered at the Senior Center and served on the board of directors. Her hobbies included reading, volunteering, making stained glass, sewing, knitting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved playing Bridge and belonged to numerous Bridge clubs. She had a passion for traveling and loved taking bus trips and trips with her grandchildren.

Other survivors include a son, Thomas Craig Burress, Erie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia "Ginny" and Joe Wommack, Parsons, and Mary Kate and Michael Blankenship , Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Jessica Burress, Nucla, Colo., Lani Witters, Olathe, Weston Burress, Manhattan, Katherine Asher, Lawrence, Emily Wegener, St. Louis, Mo., Andrew Wommack, Boston, Mass., and Christopher Blankenship , Hutchinson; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac Witters, Olathe, Eli Witters, Olathe, and Xzavea Wommack-Johnson, Parsons.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Erie Federated Church with the Rev. Larry Jordan officiating. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery under the direction of Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Erie.

Tracy Michael "Mike" Blankenship, 48, of Wamego, Kansas, died early Sunday morning from natural causes at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan [Riley Co., KS]. He was born on Aug. 31, 1963, in Verdun, France, the son of William Lloyd and Rose Marie (Choppy) Blankenship. He had been a longtime Manhattan resident, where he attended local schools including Manhattan High School. Mike loved the outdoors including cookouts and spending time with his family. His family enjoyed joking with Mike that he "loved to watch others work."

He is survived by his father, William Lloyd "Bill" Blankenship, of Wamego; his sister. Annette Sanford, and husband, Bruce, of Alma; his brother, Troy Blankenship , and wife, Serta, of Wamego; and numerous nieces and nephews: Shauna Rose Blankenship , Shaela McConkey, Forrest Dean Blankenship and Elija Howard, all of Wamego, and Amy Tucker and Owen Tucker, both of Alma. He is also survived by an extensive number of family members that reside in Virginia.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Blankenship, in 2002.

Cremation is planned. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Joyce Marie Brady, 65, died Aug. 8, 2011, at Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. She was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Chase, Kan., to Samuel and Stella Snook Casey.

She was a lifetime Chase resident and a member of the Assembly of God Church of Lyons and the 700 Club. She retired from Abbott Labs of McPherson and was a Raymond Jr. High School Cook. She married Gary Lee Brady on Oct. 14, 1962.

Survivors include: her husband, Gary of the home; son, Garrel Brady and wife Barbie of Chase; two daughters, Robin Oberle and husband Tony and Shelley White, all of Chase; mother, Stella Casey of Ellinwood; brother, Lawrence Casey of South Hutchinson; seven sisters, Betty Collins of Lyons, Dora Holliday and Mary Brady of Chase, Elizabeth Rinehart of Oklahoma, Karen Saunders and Sharon Stahl of Plainville and Jeanie May of Oberlin; nine grandchildren, Josh, Ben and Zack Oberle, Kelsie, Amanda and Haley White, Ashton and Garrett Brady and Jasmin Savage.

She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Sam R. Casey; and sister, Wanda Blankenship.

Funeral 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, Chase, Kan., with Pastor Charles Kirk officiating. Burial in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Stella W. Casey, 94, died Oct. 27, 2011, at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Shamrock, Okla., the daughter of William Roy and Mary Martha Rhea Snook.

A resident of Chase since 1944, she was a homemaker and a member of Assembly of God Church of Lyons. She married Samuel W. Casey March 30, 1945, in Hominy, Okla. He died Nov. 29, 2004.

Survivors include: son, Lawrence M. Casey of Hutchinson; daughters, Betty Collins of Lyons, Dora Holliday and Mary Brady, both of Chase, Elizabeth Rinehart of Cache, Okla., Karen Saunders and Sharon Stahl, both of Plainville, and Jeanie May of Oberlin; sister, Ellen Shuler of Chico, Calif.; brothers, Marvin Snook of Yuba City, Calif., Albert Snook of Hawaii; 31 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and 24 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son, Sam R. Casey; daughters, Wanda Blankenship and Joyce Brady; great-grandson, Mavrick Werner; and brothers, Walter Snook, Lester Snook, Leroy Snook and Arlen Snook.

Funeral 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Chaplain Ron Moser officiating. Burial in Chase Springdale Cemetery, Chase.

Billie was born December 28, 1913, in Reeds, MO. On July 24, 1937, she married Clarence "Bud" Williamson in Wichita. She worked for many years for the Gas Service Company, and then for pediatrician Dr. Don Robinson.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and by siblings, Charles Blankenship, Freda O'Brien, Chestene Smith and Harold Gene Blankenship.

Burrow, Donald Keith "Red," 82, was called home by Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior and eternal fishing buddy on Nov. 11, 2011. He proudly served in the US Army and as Honor Guard to Gen. Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo. He was also a member of the military police. He retired from Cessna after 35 years of service as a tool and die marker and jig builder. He dearly loved his family and the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a man of great patience, love and humor.

A Memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Sat., Nov. 19th at Church of the Savior 875 Spaulding.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeannene of the home; sons, Kevin (Denise) of Wichita, David of Seattle, WA and daughter Susan Monette of Wichita, 8 grandchildren and 7 gr. grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Theresa Eudora Jones Blankenship and infant son, Michael Douglas.

Annabelle May Smith, 85, retired teacher, passed away on Jan. 8, 2012. She was born in Westbrook, Minn. on May 22, 1926 to Oren and Gladys "Faulkner" Wilson. On June 4, 1955 she married Ivan Smith and they enjoyed one another's company for 56 and one half years.

Survivors include husband, Ivan; brothers, Curtis, Mike and Leo Wilson; sister, Erma Olsen and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation and the funeral services will be held at the Temple Baptist Church with the visitation at 12:00 P.M. till service time at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Ron Jones officiating. Internment will follow at the Blankenship Cemetery in Rosalia, Kan.

Joseph Donald Don Biggs, Sr., 81, Rossville, died Thurs., Jan. 27, 2011, at his home. Mr. Biggs was born Jan. 20, 1930, at Lees Summit, MO, the son of Joseph Wayne Biggs and Beulah May Asbury Biggs.

He spent much of his life in and around the Kansas City area, where Don helped his parents and grandparents run the family farm and other businesses. Don was retired from the State of Kansas, where he was the Physical Plant Manager for KNI. Prior to working for the State, he owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station at I-70 & Wanamaker for many years. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He was married to Alyce Marie Bolan of Topeka on Dec. 4, 1962. She preceded him in death. He was previously married to Joyce Spencer, of Kansas City, on June 10, 1950. Don was a member of the Good Sams and Kansas Knapsackers Camping Clubs. He attended the Rossville Christian Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Sandra Russell, Debra Hillburn, Carla Cruse, Sherry Steinberg, Cindy Atkins, and Karen Larson, seven sons, Joseph Donald Jr., Ricky, Charles, and Curtis Biggs, Raymond, Robert, and Richard Bolan. Don is also survived by a sister, Barbara Blankenship, two brothers, Robert and Danny Biggs. He has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Rossville Christian Church, Tues., Feb. 1, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. A private inurnment will follow.

Justin Allen Rosenbaum, 38, Topeka passed away July 20, 2010. Justin was born June 28, 1972 in Topeka, the son of Stanley and Sue (Blankenship) Rosenbaum.

He graduated from Washburn Rural High School and attended Kansas University, later graduating from WTI. He was employed at Best Buy. Justins world was his children, devoting every minute with them going on all day bike trips, making their favorite chocolate chip cookies, or the annual trip to rock city. He dearly loved them and will be missed by all. Justin was a life member in BMX, initially as a competitor, mentor and later as a volunteer at the Heartland BMX Track. Justin was a born Jayhawk, backing KU all the way even through the occasional loss.

Survivors include his three children, Ethan, Keaton and Elena Rosenbaum all of Topeka; mother, Sue Rosenbaum (Homer Ossiander), Topeka; father, Stanley (Helen) Rosenbaum; sister, Jennifer (Jason) Raine, Topeka; brother, Kristopher Rosenbaum, Omaha; grandmother, Charlotte Rosenbaum, Topeka; niece, Morgan Raine; nephew, Matthew Raine, both of Topeka; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Lois Metzger Blankenship; grandfather, Richard Rosenbaum and cousins, Joshua Blankenship and Sarah Blankenship.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Robert Bob Blankenship, Jr., 89, of Topeka, passed away January 24, 2012. Bob was born August 27, 1922, in Topeka, the son of Robert I. and Maude E. Kemble Blankenship.

He grew up in the Oakland area and graduated from Topeka High in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1942 and served over three years. While delivering the evening Topeka State Journal, he said he saw the love of his life, LaVonne Canrobert. Two years later, on December 18, 1942, they married in a home ceremony when he came home on leave from the Navy by Rev. John W. Hart, pastor of Oakland Presbyterian Church. Bob worked at Santa Fe Shops as a machinist for 41 years, before retiring in 1982. He was also a 50 year member of Golden Rule Lodge #90 A.F. & A.M. and member of Oakland Presbyterian Church. Bob enjoyed gardening, Big Band music, and played violin in his younger years.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne, of Brewster Place in Topeka; daughters, Tammy Blankenship, of Topeka, and Cherryl (Paul Bud) Deghand, of Salina; son, Jerry Blankenship, of Topeka; brother, Victor Blankenship, of Redlands, California; step-sister, Barbara Lewis, of Topeka; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Following his request, private graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Ollice F. Smith, 87, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 6, 2011. Ollice was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Shamrock, Okla., to Clarence and Lovia Mae Fisher.

She graduated from high school with honors in Ada, Okla. She married Staff Sergeant Lonnie Smith on June 14, 1943, and they were married for 58 years prior to his passing in July, 2001. They had three children, Gary Smith, who died in 1977, Susan Schereer of Kansas City, Mo., and Sheri Houchin of Parkville, Mo.

Ollice worked for Southwestern Bell for seven years in Oklahoma and Texas, before moving to Kansas City, Kan., in 1949 where she worked for Aetna Life & Casualty for 10 years. She enjoyed attending her church regularly, traveling, planning programs, writing skits, and public speaking. She was a devoted member of Victory Hills Baptist Church for 44 years where she served as a Deacon and held other offices. She enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher and youth director at both Victory Hills, and Immanual Baptist Church where she was a previous member. She was president of the American Baptist Women Ministries Central Region, and also served on the Board of Directors for Central Baptist Theological Seminary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Gary, husband, Lonnie, and sister, Gladys Hayes.

Survivors include her two daughters, Susan (husband Steve Scheerer) and Sheri (husband Dave Houchin), three grandchildren, Clint Blankenship (great-grandsons, Landon and Trenden), Jamie Crist, and Parker Crist and three sisters, Nora Martin, Avon Neighbors and Bonnie Fennell.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Victory Hills Baptist Church, 2010 N. 66th Terrace, Kansas City, Kan.
